Invitation to Submit Proposals for Eastern Cape Long-Format Drama Series / Telenovela

The Province has established a strategic multi-stakeholder partnership between the Eastern Cape Provincial Treasury, the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture (DSRAC), the Eastern Cape Development Corporation (ECDC), the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), and ECPACC.

Collectively, these institutions are co-developing a flagship long-format drama series, intentionally structured for progressive expansion into a full telenovela.

This collaborative production aims to elevate the Eastern Cape's profile within the national television sector, reinvigorate a culture of innovative and commercially viable storytelling, and align with the province's foundational commitments to social cohesion and the active promotion of indigenous vernacular languages.

Guidelines for Micro Budget Film Fund 2026

ECPACC seeks to support the development and production of four (4) micro-budget films produced and shot within the boundaries of the Eastern Cape.

The core aim is to increase the number of quality films produced within the province, while providing opportunities for entry-level and mid-level filmmakers to develop their skills. The programme also aims to showcase the province's picturesque landscapes and promote local talent both in front of and behind the camera.

This fund seeks to develop a profile of low-budget filmmaking that is cost-effective, practical and commercially viable.

The fund will support intermediate filmmakers who have gained some experience producing one or two film projects and aspire to venture into theatrical feature film development and production.

The Micro Budget Film Programme offers funding for the production of short films or documentaries.
